SS21 MACRO TREND
DREAM STATE
OVERVIEW:
DREAM STATE
PATTERN CURATOR NOTES:
Lucid and translucent meets reality. For SS21, there is an influence of imagination grounded with pragmatic sensibilities. We are seeing this in color combos, unexpected brights with neutrals and black. Solid color itself is not a huge departure from seasons before. Color combinations and color blocking is more surreal and unconventional. Exaggerated silhouettes and unexpected mixed pattern placements. Photo real meets water color. Large motifs in small sections. Dip dyed suiting. It’s these kinds of juxtapositions that are trending and will be considered new and modern for SS21.

PREP LEGACY
OVERVIEW:
PREP LEGACY
PATTERN CURATOR NOTES:
Prep itself its not a trend, for some it’s a lifestyle. There were slight influences in previous seasons, whereas for SS21, it’s more dominant. We’ve been seeing it a lot in the higher price points done in an ironic way. This upcoming season it will be done in a literal, classic way and more commercial. Prep Legacy can be a head-to-toe look or it’s taking elements to round out a look. Although there is a specific look to the preppy style, it’s also versatile, neutral and complimentary when it’s broken down into its key elements: plaids, stripes, kitschy conversationals in classic primaries. The different markets (apparel, home, paper & beauty) can mix and twist this aesthetic to fit micro trends that are happening as well.

HYBRID CULTURE
OVERVIEW:
HYBRID CULTURE
PATTERN CURATOR NOTES:
Hybrid is something we’ve been seeing everywhere in lifestyle trends - cars, food, architecture. For color, print and pattern, we are seeing the trend come up in the retail sector in openly offering styles that are applicable to all. In the 90’s and 70’s, there was the androgynous look that was more rebellious or making a fashion statement. What’s trending now is that is a necessity. Brands have been selling the “boyfriend shirt” or “unisex” for a while. Now, we are seeing a major trend to make styles available to all. On another side of the ‘Hybrid Culture’, we are seeing print mixing where regional cultures aesthetics are mixed together. Actual print techniques is a hybrid of different technologies. In home - furniture that is multifunctional & multipurpose in one clean aesthetic. We this as a longer lasting trend - even for SS21, this will be more prevalent in early adopters.
