SS20 MACRO TREND

GEOLOGY DISCIPLINE
PATTERN CURATOR NOTES:
The study of earth and nature is the foundation of this macro trend. We are going to continue to evolve and take a closer look at how we treat our environment and how the environment is changing as we are rapidly changing our lifestyles. What feels most natural and we are trending towards is paying closer attention to the earth’s surface - the changes, causes and effects. In the realm of color, print and pattern - looking at nature and the study of earth is where we are moving towards in seasons to come. In this heightened awareness, we are taking cues on blending in with our surroundings in a self-expressive and environmentally conscious way. Textures of concrete, clay, minerals and the layering of sediments of rock for print and pattern. Color the gamut is endless of neutral earth tones.

VAGUE AEON
PATTERN CURATOR NOTES:
A little bit of past, future and present all mashed up into a revolutionary fashion moment. Somewhat Space Age from the 60’s that meets glitch fashion that meets raver style that meets Seinfeld would be the easiest to sum up this trend. At one point, we believed that all “futuristic” style would be all foil, iridescent and plastic. It is, and it’s also classic looks that feel nostalgic and familiar. Today we are seeing that kind of mash-up in an overt way. As we move onto the next decade of the millenium, we are seeing modern trends that aren’t as sci-fi as once was believed. Print and pattern starts to feel a little more regimented and simplistic, but eye catching and mesmerizing. Color is bold and no rhyme or reason. Vibrant and experimental with a nod to old era classics.

PATTERN CURATOR NOTES:
This is bright, happy and longing for something pleasing to look at, to wear and to have. At one point in time looking polished was the only way to be presentable. Through time we veered away from that because it felt forced and not authentic for some. This go around, we are seeing the need for something comforting and pleasing. It’s not a forced or expected aesthetic, rather it’s celebrating the past and updating it with what’s new. More of an antique aesthetic rather than vintage. Antique French textiles, old ways of drawing with quill pen and ink. Volume and flounces of fabric with soft, unobtrusive print and pattern work. Color is delicate and grounded in sun faded and vegetal tones. At one point in time the only way to make color was by crushing up dried flowers. What makes this feel new is mixing up old world ways with the new way of creating clean vibrant chroma in color.
